About

Ryan Donovan is a Charleston based multi-instrumentalist singer songwriter who plays a wide variety of music, ranging from rock to jazz to soul and more.

Ryan began playing piano at the age of 6, taught by a combination of his father and himself. Since then, he has predominantly played music by ear, with intuition that enabled him to pick up the bass at age 9, guitar at age 12, and develop his vocal chops along the way.

Ryan has spent the vast majority of his life performing live, whether it be playing bass and guitar in his dad’s band as a teenager outside Boston, acting as the frontman of rock bands playing the college bar circuit in Charlottesville, playing jazz piano in the ensembles at UVA, or the solo acoustic, looping-intensive performances he focuses on in Charleston today.

From 2019-2022, while living in Washington, DC, Ryan played keyboards, sang, and wrote music for the alternative rock jam band Giles McConkey. The band played numerous shows between Washington, DC and Richmond, VA and released their album Reason To Feel in 2021.

Ryan is always pursuing opportunities to play music. While his main focus is in solo acoustic performances at local bars and restaurants, he is also available for private parties, corporate events, and weddings, with experience playing cocktail and ceremony piano. Ryan’s years of experience and extensive repertoire empower him to tailor his set to any crowd and fit any vibe, playing everything from classic hits to original compositions, always leaving a lasting impression.
